Muse Vineyards is nestled in the hills of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia just east of the town of Woodstock. The vineyards, on the banks of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River, occupy a site once farmed by Mennonites, beginning in the mid 1700s.

Owners Robert Muse and former Ambassador Sally Grooms Cowal are dedicated to the production of world class grapes based on the French domaines that grow and produce the superb wines of Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhone Valley. No mechanical pruning or harvesting is used and all vines are thinned and hedged by hand with minimal use of herbicides, insecticides and fungicides.
The inspiration for Muse Vineyards came from the small domaine wineries of France and Italy where vineyards of rarely more than twenty or thirty acres have been passed down for centuries through the same families. The wines are made exclusively from grapes grown on those small estates. The fermenting, pressing, barrel-aging and bottling of the wine are also done at the domaine. The result is a wine that is recognizably from a place. Industrial wine by contrast is manipulated to conform to formulae that guarantee an identical product year-by-year. Its grapes come from vineyards that are miles from the facilities that process wines as uniform and predictable as a soft drink brands. Muse Vineyards’ wines are by contrast, and by deliberate intent, the authentic expression of a single vineyard in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
